Chanukah, First Night

As I have mentioned once or twice before, at my house we celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas. Not just because of the fun involved, either. 🙂

Sunday evening we cleaned our Menorah, pulled out the Dreidels, and even got out a book and a tape which help us to celebrate this holiday, which is know by several names. If you’d like to know more about the reason for the holiday, the games, the food, and other fun facts, I think you will find this website quite helpful.

I’ll share a few photos from our first night celebration.

Daniel, Jeremy, and Dad

Daniel, Jeremy, and Dad

After the Shamash has done it’s work, Dad had to “attack” Jeremy to bring out a smile. (poor Jerm has a code and wasn’t very smiley tonight)

And the two boys humoring their mother….sheesh!

If you need an explanation of any of the ancient technology referenced here, ie “tape” and “book” please utilize Google or any other good search engine. Or perhaps Wiki could help. (wink)

Our “Tree of Life” Menorah was a gift from my brother and sister-in-law. I think it is quite beautiful. Dreidels and Chanukah gelt make for a little fun and a little history lesson, too. Although the book is written for children, it is still a nice, quick reference for my “grown up” boys men.

  1. Happy, happy. Do you celebrate the original 12 days of Christmas, through Epiphany?

  2. Cool. I used to get invited over and sing Oh Dreidel and be allowed in on it all at my friend’s house a few doors up the street when I was growing up. Fond memories. Best wishes to you and yours during the Festival of Lights!

  3. Happy Hannukah! Hope you have a lovely time celebrating with your family!

  4. Happy Hannukah!! And happy Christmas!! Hope you and the family are having a wonderful holiday!
